Are There Any Nice Ants in Florida!?

I know, I know. Rachel, where have you been!?

I have been so busy with work and crazy packed weekends! I’ve been spending a lot of time in my favorite cubicle:

This island is b-e-a-utiful!!

We’ve been doing a ton of home-owner installations and I am loving working this hard to make client’s gardens look amazing! Here is an example of a recent install we just finished! The Native Landscapes and Garden Center has been working on this garden for about a year! The smaller shrubs and wild flowers are what we just finished up!

I’ve been spending a lot of weekends on Pine Island which is just North of Sanibel. A few weeks ago, we hiked a few trails. One was a flatwoods that was absolutely beautiful.

Spending Saturday afternoons on a sandbar in the middle of the ocean and watching live bands at cute little restaurants is definitely the way to live on an island.

I’m loving life down here. It’s so nice to find myself and push myself in such a beautiful place! Working for SCCF is showing me the most important parts of taking care of native landscapes and building habitats for native wildlife. This job is hardly a job to me. I get to wake up and play with plants all day! My only problem right now are fire ants and flightless wasps. I am covered in bites, but it’s all so worth it!! So there may not be any nice ants on Sanibel, but I could not care less!

Last weekend a few Hanover Alumni and I went kayaking and it was so fun! We took the Commerand Trail through Tarpon Bay. On the way out we were with the current so I didn’t really have to paddle too hard. On the way back though we were against the current and my arms and shoulders were on FIRE! I already can’t wait to go again! I did manage to snap a few pictures:

Life is good and I’m more than happier than I’ve ever been.
